Course brief

Use ZooKeeper as a coordination system rather than a general database by understanding exactly what its consistency, ordering, session, watch, quorum, and failure semantics do—and do not—guarantee.

A complete Apache ZooKeeper course covering distributed coordination, the replicated znode data model, sessions and watches, Zab/quorum behavior, ensemble design, client semantics, ACLs and authentication, TLS/SASL, dynamic reconfiguration, observers, recipes, Apache Curator, persistence, monitoring, failure recovery, upgrades, containers/Kubernetes, and production coordination design.

This syllabus deliberately separates foundations, data/model semantics, internals, reliability, security, performance, operations, and production design so advanced material is not compressed into generic catch-all chapters.

By the end

You will be able to

  • Explain ZooKeeper’s znode, version, session, watch, quorum, and Zab semantics well enough to predict behavior during failures
  • Design safe coordination primitives such as leader election, locks, barriers, membership, configuration, and service discovery without common herd/race bugs
  • Secure and operate ensembles with ACLs, SASL/TLS, snapshots, transaction logs, autopurge, metrics, AdminServer, capacity planning, and recovery drills
  • Use client libraries and Apache Curator recipes while reasoning about retries, idempotency, connection loss, session expiration, and fencing
  • Design a production ensemble and prove its behavior under node loss, partitions, rolling upgrades, disk pressure, and client churn
