Course brief

Build and operate Hive as a SQL and metadata layer over large data sets, understanding how logical SQL, metastore metadata, storage layout, Tez execution, table formats, transactions, and object/HDFS storage interact.

A comprehensive Apache Hive course covering HiveQL, HiveServer2 and Beeline, the Hive Metastore, managed/external tables, partitions and bucketing, ORC/Parquet, joins and analytics, Tez execution, statistics and CBO, ACID transactions and compaction, materialized views, UDFs/SerDes/storage handlers, security, workload management, replication, Iceberg integration, performance tuning, observability, upgrades, and production data-warehouse/lake design.

This syllabus deliberately separates foundations, data/model semantics, internals, reliability, security, performance, operations, and production design so advanced material is not compressed into generic catch-all chapters.

You will be able to

  • Write advanced HiveQL and design table/partition/bucket layouts around real scan, join, aggregation, and retention workloads
  • Operate HiveServer2 and the standalone Hive Metastore with secure connectivity, high availability, backups, observability, and schema upgrades
